ଗଞ୍ଜାମ ଜିଲ୍ଲାର ଗୋପାଳପୁର-ଅନ୍-ସି ଏକ ସମୟର ବ୍ୟସ୍ତ ବନ୍ଦର ଥିଲା; ଆଜି ଏହା ଓଡ଼ିଶାର ସବୁଠାରୁ ଶାନ୍ତ ବେଳାଭୂମି ରିସୋର୍ଟମାନଙ୍କ ମଧ୍ୟରୁ ଗୋଟିଏ — ଯେଉଁଠି ମୁଖ୍ୟ ଆକର୍ଷଣ କିଛି ନାହିଁ କରିବାକୁ, ସେହି ଅର୍ଥରେ।

ଇତିହାସ

ଅଷ୍ଟାଦଶ ଶ ଶତାବ୍ଦୀରେ ଗୋପାଳପୁର ଓଡ଼ିଶା-ବର୍ମା ବାଣିଜ୍ୟ ପଥର ବନ୍ଦର ଥିଲା — ରେଶମ ଓ ଚାଉଳ ରପ୍ତାନି ହେଉଥିଲା ଏଠାରୁ। ଉନବିଂଶ ଶତାବ୍ଦୀରେ ବନ୍ଦର ବନ୍ଦ ହେଲା, କିନ୍ତୁ ପୁରୁଣା ବତୀଘର (lighthouse), ଡଚ୍ ଯୁଗର ଗୋଦାମ ଓ ମାଛୁଆ ଗାଁ ସେହି ଯୁଗର ସାକ୍ଷୀ।

  • ସମୁଦ୍ର ପାଖରେ ବିଶ୍ରାମ: କମ ଭିଡ଼, ଚୌକଡ଼ି ରାସ୍ତା, ପୁରୁଣା ବଙ୍ଗଳା-ଢାଞ୍ଚାର ହୋଟେଲ।
  • ସାଇକ୍ଲ ଭଡ଼ା ଓ ମାଛୁଆ ଗାଁ ପରିକ୍ରମା।
  • ପାଖାପାଖି: ବ୍ରହ୍ମପୁର (୨୦ କିମି), ତାରାତାରିଣୀ ଶକ୍ତପୀଠ ଓ ଛତ୍ରପୁରର ପାଖ ବଜାର।

Gopalpur-on-Sea: A Tranquil Coastal Retreat

Gopalpur-on-Sea in Ganjam district was once a busy port shipping silk and rice to Burma; when trade died in the 19th century the harbour slept, and today that sleep is the product. Few crowds, a 1907 lighthouse, casuarina groves and a seaface of heritage bungalows make it Odisha’s most restful beach town.

What to do

  • Walk or cycle the flat seaface promenade at dawn; watch fishing boats return to the old harbour mouth.
  • Climb the lighthouse for a panorama of the Bay and the Eastern Ghats’ nearest spurs.
  • Day-trip 30 km inland to the Tara Tarini hill shrine — one of Odisha’s oldest Shakti peethas — or browse Berhampur’s famous silk market.
